BATIK GOBI

“I loved the idea of reimagining Parajumper’s signature jacket in a traditional textile
technique but in a modern print design, juxtaposing natural dyes and batik with
technical outerwear and trims.”
The Gobi is reinterpreted through Lisa King’s contemporary approach to traditional batik. Its outer fabric features an orchid motif created through hand-stamped and hand-drawn wax-resist techniques on a silk blend, while the interior references traditional Javanese stripes in pure silk. Naturally dyed with mahogany bark, the piece brings artisanal textile traditions into dialogue with technical outerwear.
Lisa King ( @lisakinglondon ) is a textile artist and multidisciplinary designer based between London and Bangkok. Her nature-inspired practice combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design across fashion, interiors and performance. In recent years, her research has focused on batik, the traditional Indonesian wax-resist dyeing technique, inspired by her late mother's antique textile archive. Through this practice, King explores lineage, inheritance and cultural preservation while supporting the continuity of traditional craftsmanship.
